The work that first responders do impacts not only the individuals in the field, but their loved ones and personal relationships as well. Partners and kids who love a first responder experience the uncertainty that this work brings, along with a demanding schedule, and the uncertainty of how to support your loved one who experiences frequent vicarious and first hand trauma.

Couples’ therapy addresses a wide range of concerns, including communication, conflict resolution, and coping with the presence of trauma, anxiety, or depression in your marriage. In situations of separation or divorce, we can explore how to effectively co-parent and navigate the challenges brought on by this changed relationship.

For kids and families, it is common for kids to experience high levels of anxiety or depression when their parents work in public safety or first responder professions.  Additionally, kids deal with a variety of other stressors, such as cyberbullying and social media concerns, cutting, school pressure and other adolescent challenges. Kids whose families are navigating divorce or blending stepfamilies also benefit from additional support. I work with both kids and parents to help address these concerns and find ways to support the family system.
